About Us
A.D.S.C.R. Athabasca Dénésuline Sports Culture and Recreation is a non-profit organization that
is volunteer led. The organization is dedicated to the well-being of youth and their communities
through organized sports, culture and recreational programs. The program and organization was
founded and developed by Shirley Sandypoint, a member of the Black Lake First Nation.
The ADSCR organization offers programs and personal development services following the
Saskatchewan Physical Education Curriculum for the youth of four local Athabasca communities.
We welcome children and teens from Black Lake, Fond Du Lac, Stony Rapids and Wollaston Lake
of the Athabasca Region of Northern Saskatchewan. This program is the first of its kind serving
the Athabasca First Nations Communities.
The Athabasca Dénésuline Sports, Culture & Recreation community cooperative will begin
program activities this Spring of 2021.
Our Vision
To address the needs of our youth through positive interaction where every Athabasca Dénésuline
Youth`s potential is fostered, acknowledged and encouraged.
Our Mission
To lead, develop and promote positive sport, cultural and recreational programs and initiatives
that positively contribute to the quality of life for people in the Athabasca Region of Northern,
Saskatchewan. Through organized interactions, it is our intent to encourage and empower our
young by providing confidence building activities to help set a path for success.

Administration and Governance
The Executive Director is Shirley Sandypoint who volunteers in the organization. She is a
Dénésuline, a member of Black Lake First Nation. She is originally from Hatchet Lake First Nation
(Wollaston Lake) and enjoys hard work and believes in dedication and determination.
Shirley holds a Diploma in Business Management from the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of
Technologies of Prince Albert and also has her Teaching Degree from First Nations University of
Canada in Regina. Along with these credentials, she also holds a Masters Degree in Education
Administration from the University of Saskatchewan.
Shirley has proudly helped in the sports and recreation departments in Black Lake and Wollaston
for numerous years. Shirley also brings her experience as a School Recreation Coordinator from
her years with the NSCRD. She has a strong passion for recreation, sports and her déné culture.
Working with and helping the youth in her community is a priority for Shirley.

Gary Sandypoint is one of the Director(s) of the organization and is also a member of the Black
Lake First Nation. Gary believes that hard work and dedication is essential when accomplishing
a worth while goal and displayed this commitment as a former Captain of his local hockey team
“Warriors” (1994-1996). Gary has a strong knowledge of his Déné culture and believes that
showing kindness to people and being protective of our youth to help guide them to a positive
future is important. Gary formerly owned a community recreation & billiards facility where the
youth created lasting friendships.
Both Gary & Shirley are well versed in the NSCRD approved curriculum.
